Mallorca is a cycling mecca. There’s no doubt about it. It has everything a cyclist’s heart could desire: great weather, spectacular climbs, fast flats, well maintained roads, views for days, lots of cycling cafés and a great community that celebrates the sport. From the famous Sa Calobra climb, with its seemingly endless hairpin bends, to the winding coastal road up to Cap Formentor, or the inland flats through agricultural heartland where all you’ll encounter are sheep and fellow cyclists, Mallorca is the treasure trove of cycling terrain. To help you play your cycling holiday to the island, we’ve compiled a list of some of the best routes and cycling hotspots for you.
Best cycling routes
It only seemed right to begin this guide with the Queen of all cycling routes, the classic ride along the Ma-10 all the way from Pollença in the North to Andratx in the South.
If you’re ready to tackle this route, you better come prepared for around 125 kms of climbing with 2,500 metres of elevation. The brave will be rewarded with stunning views of the mountains, coast, valleys, lakes, monasteries and quaint little towns where time seemingly stands still. From Hotel Ca’n Bonico, there is some great cycling to be found if you head out towards Santanyí, Llucmajor and Felanitx.
Best cycling cafés
There are plenty of cafés on the island dedicated to making the best coffee and cake for cyclists. One of our faves is Sa Mola in Sineu, where you will find a delicious assortment of food and drink. The café is jam packed with cyclists almost every day, so the atmosphere is great. In Alaró, there’s the famous Cycling Planet, owned by former World Champion in track cycling David Muntaner. The vibe is fun, the food fresh and the people friendly. What more could you ask for?
Best equipment and bike hire stores
You can never have enough cycling gear. That’s just a fact. And luckily, Mallorca has some incredible cycling shops for you to choose from, including some of the top brands.
In Palma, you’ll find some high-end cycling outfitters, such as Rapha, Pas Normal Studios and Café du Cycliste. In terms of bike rental, Huerzeler is always a good option. They have pick-up and drop-off points all over the island, making life as easy as possible for you.
