ÓDEMINUÍ is a sustainably-made, Mallorca-based label by Adriana Meunié. Unique bespoke pieces are crafted using ethically sourced and produced materials with a minimal aesthetic in a neutral, natural palette of cream, beige, rust, and black.
The artistry behind Adriana Meunié and Ódeminuí
Adriana is also a textile artist, working with raw materials to create tapestries that are powerful works of art in their own right. For Spring/Summer 2024, Adriana created an installation for the Loro Piana press presentation in Milan. A tribute to the linen fibre, elevated to a work of art, showcasing the incredible properties and movement of the natural material.
Majorcan roots
Adriana grew up in Mallorca, where she still lives and works. While studying fashion design at BAU in Barcelona, she discovered that the fashion world wasn’t really for her, but that textiles definitely were—and that her native island was full of them. “Wild textures, volumes and shapes” form the fundamental basis of her work, she explains. In her home studio in south Mallorca, she is always searching for “monstrous elegance”.
Technique sand materials used by Adriana Meunié
Using raw materials from the island of Mallorca, like wool, Adriana explores traditional and artisanal techniques that hark back to ancient professions such as shepherding. The wool comes from sheep that she helps to shear. Plants like esparto and raffia are also central to her work. She chooses them for “their intrinsic beauty. I want to let these materials express themselves, to show their raw beautiful purity […] “We usually see them treated or used in baskets, sweaters, chairs… but before giving them a practical use, I find them wonderful and wish to share this feeling”.
Themes and inspo
There are several unifying messages in her work. The first is a “clean/rawness”—her pieces are made with natural materials, so Adriana always looks “for the balance to show them with a very clean and clear effect.” “Abstract landscapes” are also important. “Some pieces are meant to recreate the sensation of a landscape,” she describes. This is evident in how her pieces often appear ‘alive’. “Interior/exterior” is another key theme. Adriana works to bring something that looks as if it is from the outside world inside a space, like the vegetal fibres that look like grass or the wool from sheep. It is not uncommon to have a visceral reaction to her work. Adriana hopes to evoke sensations and emotions like a sense of “calm […] perhaps discomfort”.
