Summer is just around the corner and it’s time for sun and plenty of fun. Mallorca may be best known for its beaches, but it is also a destination for music lovers, hosting festivals, gigs, and events throughout the year, especially during the warmer months. Let’s find out which big names and underground artists are coming to the island this season. See you on the open-air dancefloor(s).
Mallorca Live Festival, Magaluf: 12 – 14 June
The island’s number one 3-day event showcases international and national artists across multiple stages at the sprawling festival grounds just outside Magaluf. This year’s line-up includes the likes of Argentine rapper-singer Nathy Peluso, Bristol trip-hop band Massive Attack, Catalan artist Bad Gyaal and punk rock icon Iggy Pop. There are also more local bands and DJs on smaller stages, food trucks, stalls for mid-festival shopping, and other fun smaller-scale events. See you there!
Es Coliseu, Palma
Located in the heart of the capital, the historic bullring or “Plaza del Toros” is an architectural spectacle. It has now transformed into “Es Coliseu – Centre Cultural”, a hub dedicated to culture and music with a diverse lineup, ranging from live music to exhibitions and performances, markets and activities for families. Open by day and night, the open-air venue is especially captivating after dark, when the sky is a blanket of stars above the tiered seating. Sa Fonda, Deià
An institution in the Tramuntana mountains, Sa Fonda is a small bar with an outdoor terrace and a huge “ficus” tree under which you can often find a DJ playing on the decks and a dancing crowd. Known for being a hippy hotspot, the bar can get busy now and the team has branched out to other events like festivals and even a stage at Mallorca Live Festival. S’Embat, Es Trenc
Set just off one of the island’s best beaches, this low-key “chiringuito” or “beach bar” opened in 2005 and has since hosted a wide variety of live music acts. The vibe is bohemian and beachy, where dancing in the sand to reggae is the norm. Open seasonally from May to October, experience everything from jam sessions, jazz and funk to magicians, circus performances and flamenco. Expect the unexpected at S’Embat, the perfect place for a drink and a dance after a day at the beach.
