Want to know a little secret? Mallorca’s southern region is one of its loveliest with some of the island’s very best beaches. Want to know where to go and why?
Santanyí – Mediterranean charm
This quaint town on the southeastern coast is a tranquil place to experience authentic island life. Pretty sandstone buildings house cute boutiques, art galleries, and great restaurants serving local Mallorquín dishes from international to organic. The central square is a great place to hang out and hosts a weekly Saturday market selling everything from locally made jewellery to brightly coloured bohemian dresses. Santanyí also has a sandy beach in a beautiful little bay so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
Ses Salines – sun, sea and history
Our home has a rich history evoked by its name, meaning ‘the salt pans’. This area, which has been known for salt production since the 4th century, is perhaps now better known for its idyllic location, offering traditional architecture and a laid-back vibe combined with excellent restaurants. The beautiful natural surroundings are perfect for hiking, cycling and water sports like kayaking, snorkelling, and sailing. One of the best beaches nearby is Es Trenc, a two-kilometre stretch of pure white sand and crystalline sea. Learn more about salt production at Las Salinas d’Es Trenc, where you can take a guided tour or pick up some souvenir salt from its lovely shop.
Colonia de Sant Jordi – a ‘must visit’ port
This seaside town may not be as pretty as some of the more traditional villages but it has sandy beaches in spades. Beside the port, the promenade has a host of seafood and paella restaurants serving cold drinks. There is a main beach, which is family-friendly, but if you walk beyond, the coastline is decorated with golden sand for as far as the eye can see. If you’d like to set sail further afield, book a trip to the island of Cabrera, 20 kilometres offshore. Snorkel the blue cave and explore landmarks that reveal interesting stories of this island’s history.
Campos – a cultural hub
Ideally located to explore the best of what the island’s south has to offer, Campos is more than a great location. The traditional town has good restaurants, bars, cafés and two weekly markets on Thursdays and Saturdays, selling traditional food and goods. Every August, ARTNIT CAMPOS is a celebration of local art and culture, where the creative community comes together to see the special exhibitions around the town and to be seen.
Tradition, nature, and beaches with a relaxed vibe. What else do you need? The south of Mallorca really has it all. We look forward to welcoming you to all this and more as soon as we’re back from our winter break in Spring 2025. See you then!
