It’s time to make the most of this spring-like weather. Let’s get out and explore the countryside in Mallorca’s southeast, home to so many treks and trails it’s hard to know where to start. But you’re in luck—we’ve done the walks for you. Here are some of our favourite hikes in our surrounding area.
Walk one: Cap de Ses Salines to Caló des Màrmols
Drive to the southernmost point of Mallorca, Cap de Ses Salines, an idyllic spot where you’ll find the lighthouse, views of the Cabrera Archipelago National Park across the turquoise blue and absolute peace. Embark on this reasonably challenging scenic 10-kilometre route that takes just over 2 hours there and back. Pass by the rocky cliffs to one of the most quintessential coves on the island, Caló del Màrmols. As it can only be reached on foot, it is the perfect secluded halfway point for a picnic and a swim.

Walk two: Colònia de Sant Jordi / Cap de Ses Salines to Es Caragol
Keeping with the scenic coastal route and beach theme, here’s another great walk. You can start in Colònia Sant Jordi for a 1-kilometre walk or again in Cap de Ses Salines to go around 7 kilometres. Both have the same destination from different directions: Es Caragol, one of the island’s most beautiful virgin beaches and you’ll have it all to yourselves, if you’re lucky.

Walk three: Cabrera island
For something a bit different, sail to the island of Cabrera, which lies as part of an uninhabited archipelago around 10 kilometres off the southeastern coast. You can reach this protected national park by boat from Colònia Sant Jordi during spring and summer. There are lots of different hikes on the island like the eleven-kilometre walk from the port to The Lighthouse of N’Enciola via Palmador and the Llarg Canal. This medium-difficulty route takes around 5 hours and the views are worth it. Another goes to Ses Sitges, taking in some of the most beautiful parts of the island—from Ganduf Cove to Caló des Forn—in 9 kilometres and 3 hours. For an easier, shorter trail, walk up to the castle in around 1.5 kilometres and about an hour. When you arrive, check with the park ranger that your chosen route is viable.

One final piece of advice before you set off on your island adventures: be prepared. Check the weather forecast and wear comfortable shoes and suitable clothes. These places don’t have nearby shops so take this into account and pack enough food and water to last. Also, always take and wear plenty of high-factor sunscreen! Now all you need to do is walk, talk and enjoy the sights of south Mallorca. And, of course, come stay with us this Spring!
