Hand-blown glass is often considered a dying art, but here in Mallorca, this revered traditional skill is alive and well. Lafiore is famed for the exquisite handcrafted objects created in its glass factory on the road to Valldemossa.
The organic, perfectly imperfect shapes evoke true aesthetic pleasure and an intense admiration for the craft. Let’s dive into the story of this Majorcan glassmaker, which is deeply inspired by its Mediterranean home.

The story of Lafiore
The glassblowing company and factory was founded by the Tortella family in 1964, specialising in handcrafted and blown glass. Since then, it has blossomed into a dedicated team of creators and designers who keep alive the tradition of artistic glassmaking.
Lafiore is also committed to responsible and sustainable practices, using 100% recycled glass and solar-powered furnaces. A symbol of Mallorcan craft and artisanry, Lafiore fuses traditional glassblowing techniques with modern design, drawing inspiration from the colours, shapes and beauty of the island.

What to buy
Whether you’re a glassware lover or a first-time buyer, you’ll be spoilt for choice at Lafiore. Every piece is designed and crafted on the island, making them great gifts that celebrate Majorcan heritage. The artisan glasses are, of course, the main attraction: beautiful curves, colourful streaks that catch the light, in deep blues, inspired by the Mediterranean Sea, or bright multicoloured “confetti”.

From highballs to stackable styles, the glasses are available in various sizes, individually or as sets, so you can mix and match. You’ll also find glass pitchers to pair with your pieces, in coloured glass or a classic green hue. Olive oil bottles, “aceiteras” in Spanish, make a wonderful souvenir for yourself or someone you love, and the wide range of scented candles, from orange blossom to fig, will conjure up the fragrance of the island in your living room. If you’re not in Mallorca, you can shop online.
Watch the glass artisans at work
Lafiore offers guided tours, giving you the chance to get up close and watch the artisans at work in the factory. Discover the magic of transforming recycled glass into functional and decorative pieces, from glasses and bottles to lamps and so much more. If you’d like to try your hand at the craft, workshops in both glass and ceramics are available. You’ll find the Lafiore boutique and factory at Carretera Valldemossa, Kilometre 11, S’Esgleieta, Esporles.

Now that you’re an expert on Majorcan glassware, you’re sure to be looking forward to your next visit to Ca’n Bonico even more. Make sure to leave plenty of room in your hand luggage for your next artisan glassware haul. See you very soon, with plenty of bubble wrap.
