One of the best ways to really get to know a new place is through its markets. Those special days when all the local farmers, artisans and producers come together to display their goods for all to see, buy and enjoy. Here on Mallorca, there are markets all over the island, from fresh produce to locally made delicacies to artisanal objects, handicrafts and clothes. Shopping local has never looked so good. Here are a few of our favourites, close to the hotel and further afield.
Santanyí market: explore local arts & crafts
For food, crafts and textiles, head to Santanyí market on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Only a ten-minute drive from Ses Salines, Santanyí is a pretty sandstone village with a boho-chic artistic community. You’ll find handcrafted jewellery galore at its market in the historical centre, alongside floaty dresses in bright fabrics and plenty of other treasures that make excellent presents—for yourself or someone else. There’s also local food, including gourmet cheeses, meats, olives, oil and wine and a rainbow of fresh fruit and vegetables grown locally.
Ses Salines market: support the community
Right here in Ses Salines, there is a market every Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm in the town centre, in front of the town hall. From ripe fruit and vegetables to lush plants and flowers to artisanal objects, textiles and leather goods, this market is small but charming—a great way to support the locals and the local economy.
Campos market: local flavours, local people
The nearby agricultural town of Campos hosts a small market every Thursday and Saturday from 9 am until 2 pm, from Sa Creu to Plaza Major. Farmers bring freshly grown fruit, vegetables, organic produce and traditional Mallorcan products like sobrasada, honey and jams. Brightly coloured bouquets and plants can be found alongside fashion garments and accessories.
Consell market: give treasures a second life
There are many other markets across the island. Another notable mention if you prefer trawling for antiques, second-hand and vintage treasures is Consell market, which happens every Sunday morning from 8 am until 2 pm. The largest flea market on the island sells everything pre-loved, from furniture to clothes to jewellery and vinyl. Prepare to rummage and you’re sure to find something you love. Another person’s trash is another person’s treasure, after all. There are also food trucks and cafés to rest your feet during a morning of retail therapy.
Here at Ca’n Bonico, you are perfectly located for all the markets the southeast has to offer. Just remember to leave plenty of room in your suitcase. See you soon.
