Hiking Mallorca in spring: gentle routes near Ses Salines

Spring is one of the best times of the year to explore Mallorca on foot. Temperatures are mild, the countryside turns green again and the days grow longer, inviting you to spend more time outdoors. For hiking lovers, the island offers an incredible variety of routes: from easy coastal walks to mountain trails with breathtaking views.

While the Serra de Tramuntana usually takes centre stage when people talk about hiking in Mallorca, the south of the island also offers beautiful routes, many of them close to Ses Salines. Paths through farmland, natural parks, cliffs and hidden coves allow you to discover Mallorca at a slower pace.

Gentle routes near Ses Salines – perfect for beginners

If you’re looking for relaxed walks with little elevation and open landscapes, these routes near Ses Salines are a great place to start.

Mondragó Natural Park – Cala Mondragó to Cala S’Amarador

About 20 minutes from Ses Salines by car, Mondragó Natural Park is one of the most pleasant places to walk in the southeast of Mallorca. The path connecting Cala Mondragó with Cala S’Amarador follows the coastline through pine forests and small viewpoints over the sea. It’s an easy, well-marked route and perfect to combine with a swim if the weather allows.

Cap de Ses Salines – Cala Màrmols

From the Cap de Ses Salines lighthouse, a coastal path leads to Cala Màrmols. The route follows the shoreline through open landscapes and low cliffs. It’s about five kilometres each way, with the Mediterranean always in sight. At the end, you’ll find the secluded Cala Màrmols, with crystal-clear water and a wild, untouched setting.

Routes for intermediate hikers

If you’re ready for slightly longer walks and more varied scenery, these routes offer a bit more challenge.

Sant Salvador Sanctuary – Felanitx

The climb to the Sant Salvador Sanctuary near Felanitx is a popular hike in the southeast of Mallorca. The path gradually ascends to the hilltop sanctuary, located more than 500 metres above sea level. From the top, panoramic views stretch across fields, villages and the sea in the distance.

Cala Figuera to Cala Santanyí coastal route

This walk connects two beautiful spots along the southeast coast. Starting in the fishing harbour of Cala Figuera, the path follows the coastline to Cala Santanyí. The route offers sea views for much of the walk and passes through quiet stretches of coastline.

Hiking routes for experienced walkers

For those looking for longer walks or more elevation, these routes offer a more demanding experience.

Puig de Sant Salvador from Felanitx

A more challenging option to reach the sanctuary is starting from the town of Felanitx itself. The hike is longer and steeper, but the reward is spectacular panoramic views across the Pla de Mallorca and the southeastern coast.

Castell de Santueri – Felanitx

Another rewarding route leads to Castell de Santueri, an ancient fortress perched high above the surrounding countryside near Felanitx. The walk passes through rural landscapes and offers impressive views of the island.
